To Make Into a Bundle (Swallows and Dovetails), 2025
300 x 90 x 4 cm each
Burned plane wood (yakisugi, or shou sugi ban) in plane wood live edge slab

To Make Into a Bundle (Swallows and Dovetails) explores the memory of this specific plane tree, which, after being exposed to a fire in a nearby building, tried to heal its burns and partly lost bark.

This inlay is made from burned plane wood (yakisugi). This traditional Japanese woodworking technique preserves the wood, making it fire-resistant and protecting it from the elements.

The work is part of the To Make Into a Bundle series, which, through different inlay techniques, explores the memory of specific trees in their (urban) environments.
