The Succession

The Succession shows a scenery with a building standing on a table surrounded by chairs. A building that has been demolished to make room for the apartment block where I live at the moment. The plaster scale model is in a state of dissolution, suggesting a demolishing act of an absent figure or figures. The object wears off, the material is dissolving and the house is being reduced to a memory.

The title hints to ‘a line of succession’, a sequence of consecutive buildings which are linked together through time. A title that is about how one place can have several memories, of all the different houses and buildings that once stood there. In the work I am playing with the scale model and how the final decay is already lurking in it. The table and chairs can refer to the table of an urban planner or a project developer top-down deciding to demolish the building.
