Study of a Breathing Window
2021 - in process

Study of a Breathing Window is a series of works in progress that explore Jan Duikers’ tumbling windows in Sanatorium Zonnestraal.

This tuberculosis hospital was intended as a rehabilitation center, but at the same time, it was set up as a labor colony. Large parts of the sanatorium, such as the workshops and the single tuberculosis houses in the woods on the site, were built by patients themselves. Maintenance of these cheap steel frames was included in occupational therapy, forcing patients to periodically repaint the entire sanatorium.
